For over 50 years, our Gurdwara has been a provider of food and fellowship in Glasgow. Today, we continue this tradition every single week — serving hundreds of meals to our community, to new visitors, and to anyone who walks through our doors.
The concept of Langar (the community kitchen) was established by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Sikh Guru. At a time when caste systems and social hierarchies were rigid, Langar was a revolutionary act — where kings and commoners sat side-by-side to eat the same meal.
This simple but profound idea — that everyone deserves to eat together as equals — was radical in 15th century India, and it remains meaningful today.
In our Gurdwara, Langar is served to all visitors, no matter their background. This practice reminds us that in the eyes of the Creator, we are all one. The food is strictly vegetarian to ensure that people of all dietary beliefs can eat together without exception.
Langar is served completely free of charge to everyone. It is funded by the voluntary donations and Seva of our Sangat.
